March 8-15, 2003 Port Royal R. C. - Hilton Head Island, South Carolina MD, WD, MXDHilton Head Island....what can you say? A healthy portion of southern hospitality, great food, great people, great tennis, and some fine weather!
Our trip started at the lovely Marriott Residence Inn. Special thanks to Jennifer Hull for all her hard work in accommodating over 70 people! Happy Hours and waffle breakfasts will not be soon forgotten! We were very fortunate to have 3 great tennis hosts from the Port Royal Racquet Club! Tanda, Denny, and Tara provided all of us a most enjoyable week of tennis, including a reception, round robins, drills, prizes, and a tournament to finish it all off! Thanks Guys! A notable feature of this trip was the myriad of culinary experiences, mixed in with a couple of quick trips to McDonalds! Now, on to the "International Tour Stop"! All that hard work in the drills, round robins, privates, and practice matches finally paid off for! For whom, we are not sure? | The first shot (heard around the island?) | Mixed "A" winners Michael Brennan and Sandra Barrett (left) pose with Denny and Tanda (middle) after narrowly defeating Chris Roovers and Scott Barrett (right) | | | In the "B" Mixed, Sue Kinzie and Eric Dyke (right, seen here in shock) needed a tie-breaker to defeat Scotty MacIntosh and Sue Yagi to capture their first Tour title together! How do you live up to expectations now? | The twin towers of Jim Kopperson and Nick Haraszthy (left) outlasted Phil Grubb and Eric Dyke for the Men's "B" title | | | Even showing off their best dance moves did not do the trick, as Scott Barrett and Aubrey Fishman (left) went down to local Bart Whiteman and Ed Wilcox in the Men's "A" final. Thanks to Bart for all his help in finding us accommodations and suggesting great places to dine! | Newbies Heather McLeod and Ann Harrison (left) just didn't have enough to overcome Tour regulars Margaret McCreery and Bridget Davidson, in the Women's "B" final | | | With Bulldozer-like efficiency, Rochelle Decker and Colleen Petrick (left) zoomed to and through the finals, defeating Janet Haraszthy and Kim Hutt-Taylor in the Women's "A" final |
Thanks to all that made this possible....especially those of you who came down! Hope you had a great time! Time to say good-bye.....until next year! |
